The development of action movement throughout a thriller novel helps keep the reader engaged. In most thrillers there are periods of action followed by periods of calm, allowing the charcaters and plot to regain some assemblance of normalcy. At the same time the wide range of action is directed to an ultimate climax of heavy action intended to take the reader to a new level beyond their expectations. In the Master of Deception, Yassar has planned initial attacks filled with actioon that are intended to cause confusion within intelligence and anti-terrorism agencies. Why attack such low level seemiongly meaningless targets like bridges and art museums? It appears to be a waste of time and resources with little to show for the efffort. At the same time the attack actions are ratched up to the next level causing increased fear and anxiety as the intelligence agencies have not identified the terrorist organization, or leadership and feel vulnerable to prevent even higher level attacks. The action drives the reader to consider what might be the next level attacks.
